Traveling Wilburys – End Of The Line RIP Charlie T. Wilbury, Jr.
I guess he’ll never play at my prom, now. But cousin Tom will always be one of my favorite artists that had music span every decade of my life. My all time favorite track is from Full Moon Fever, and it only appeared on the CD, it was just him saying (with the sound of an LP spinning in the background):
“Hello, CD listeners.
We’ve come to the point in this album where those listening on cassette (or records) will have to stand up (or sit down) and turn over the record (or tape). In fairness to those listeners, we’ll now take a few seconds before we begin side two.
Thank you. Here’s side two.”
And he’s on side two, now.
It’s almost pointless to list favorite songs or albums, because every music service worth something has tribute playlists that include the band (Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers), his solo work, The Traveling Wilburys, and Mudcrutch. And then there are the countless collaborations & appearances (on SNL especially).
The first incarnation of the Heartbreakers was called Mudcrutch (formed in 1970); his last released album was called “Mudcrutch 2” from 2016. The tour the band ust finished was the 40th Anniversary tour commemorating their first album.
